Lancia just needs to start making more of their own shit.
Otherwise, all car manufactures should have the right to live and none of them desperately need to go.
Except Chinese car makers, fuck them.

Not that I have an issue with it, but is there a reason for GMC? It seems like it only exists so you don't need a Chevy dealership to sell trucks...if GMC was gone tomorrow, I don't think GM would lose any sales, they would just become Chevy sales.

Lancia is currently the rebadged version of Chrysler for the Italian market.
Much like the relationship between Vauxhall/Holden/Opel/Chevrolet.

Buick.. That brand no longer serve any purpose. There was a time when a Buick was a sporty(ish) version of a generic and somewhat boring GM car... Cadillac does that now.. so yeah..

As I said, they need to start making their own cars. I’ve seen newer Lancias In Spain, it’s not just Italy.

I would enjoy a newer take on the Fulvia, Stratos, or Intagrale.

Mitsubishi.

Not. Gonna. Happen. Atleast not with FCA. Would compete too much with Alfa Romeo.

True, especially since every Chevrolet truck, SUV, crossover, and van sells better than their GMC versions.
Though, I will say that some GMCs look better than their Chevrolet counterparts, especially the Sierra and Canyon.

Buick is still the sporty(ish) or more luxurious version of a plainer GM car, just for those who can’t afford a Cadillac.

I personally think Mitsubishi just needs to get their things straightened out.
They’ve gone astray, with half their lineup being subpar or worse (Mirage, i-MiEV, Lancer), and the other half actually being somewhat decent (Outlander) or actually pretty good (Outlander Sport).
I don’t think the brand needs to die, I just think they should drop the stuff that’s not well recieved, stick to the Outlander and Outlander Sport for a couple years, team up with another manufacturer, and use the time to develop some new models that fit better in the brand and are actually good.

It is? But why not just make that a Caddy or a Chevy?

I came here to say the exact same thing.

I think you spelled Lincoln wrong.
Seriously though, how on earth could you say Cadillac needs to die? They’ve finally come back as an American alternative to Lexus/Infiniti or BMW/Mercedes and seem to slot perfectly (even geographically!) between them.

Buick has sold well in China, so you can at least give them that...
![]() 05/20/2015 at 19:58 |

Well, the Buick brand also brings a bit of euro flair (if you wanna call it that), with most of the lineup being rebadged Opels.
That’s something that Chevrolet and Cadillac don’t currently have (though the next Spark is going to be a rebadged Opel Karl).

Mitsubishi still sells the Delica and Pajero in markets outside the US. I am surprised they have not left the United States.
![]() 05/20/2015 at 20:02 |

In my opinion, America should get out of the luxury car game altogether as it is not a market segment they have ever been truly competitive in.
![]() 05/20/2015 at 20:03 |

China is a unique market. It might be the only place outside of North America where they can sell Lincoln, Cadillac, and Buick. The Europeans certainly don’t want them.

I thought it was the other way around.. Opel being rebadged as Buick.. I’m guessing you’re talking about the Insignia/Regal right?
![]() 05/20/2015 at 20:04 |
|
True.. but the chinese only want looooooong cars.. they don’t care about the name.
![]() 05/20/2015 at 20:14 |
|
Mostly, yes. Regal is a rebadged Insignia, Encore is a rebadged Mokka, the upcoming Cascada is just the same car with the Opel badges swapped for Buick ones.
The only exceptions are the Verano, which was rebadged as the Astra sedan, the Enclave being the most luxurious of the Lambda triplets, and the LaCrosse now essentially being a cheaper and less luxurious XTS.
In fact, the Verano reminds me of the Canadian Acura CSX, which Honda used the base for the JDM Civic sedan. Basically, the Verano is to Buick and Opel as the CSX was to Acura and Honda.

I think one of the reasons they haven’t left is because they have an assembly plant in Illinois, and they’re currently building ASX and RVR versions of the Outlander Sport there for export markets outside of North America.

Mhm.. but why should we keep Buick as a name? :) It would never sell in Europe and it’d be better off as a Cadillac in China :)
![]() 05/20/2015 at 20:21 |
|
Because Buick is very popular in China, and here in the US, the Opel name is commonly associated with either the Opel by Isuzu/Buick-Opel or the Opel GT, only one of which is remembered fondly.
![]() 05/20/2015 at 20:24 |

Hmm.. Perhaps we should get rid of Chevy then? :P What’s the last chevy that was really popular because it was a chevy?

Camaro, Corvette, Silverado, Tahoe, Suburban, Cruze (was the best selling car in America for a while after it first came out)...

I thought the Corvette was it’s own brand now? But yeah, you’re right :) Totally not pulling your leg here.. :)

Buick. Cuz fuck Buick.

Corvette was it’s own brand for a while in the mid-00’s in Europe, sold alongside Cadillacs instead.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet…
‘During the mid-2000s, the Corvette and Cadillac range were marketed in Europe through a separate distribution channel operated by Netherlands-based Kroymans Corporation Group...’

Ever is not never, especially with the Cadillac V series, the final, American answer to M/AMG/RS/whatever new acronym Germany has this week

Staaaph, GM you confuse me :P Just give me a 572Ci engine and smile.. I know I’ll smile.

All of GM.

The people who buy European luxury cars will not buy it, regardless of how good it is, because of the badge alone. It’s a completely different target customer. If you hang around Marin County or Palo Alto long enough you will understand that Cadillac has zero chance of competing for the upscale market.

Buick is 2015’s Oldsmobile.

I’m not sure. Alfa was all FWD until their return to RWD with the 4C. I doubt their entire proposed lineup will be sporty or exiting. The company also would like you to forget that the 8C happened. (It is terrible, I admit).

Again, there is no room for Lancia inside FCA anymore. FCA is investing in Alfa to become a premium brand that competes with BMW, but with added italian. Fiat takes care of the small, cheap cars, Chrysler and Dodge are for the murican crowd and somewhat more affordable, and Maserati is the upmarket luxury brand competing with the high end Mercedes’ and so on. So where could they fit Lancia if there actually were any plans for a revival?
![]() 05/21/2015 at 18:10 |
|
Well, VW group has Porsche, Lamborghini, and Audi. I am sure that Alfa Romeo and Lancia could coexist, but considering Alfa doesn’t actually have a new product lineup out yet aside from the 4C, they are going to need to invest all of their time in that, so I agree with you. But could Lancia be revived in the future? Absolutely. Unlike Alfa Romeo, Lancia has the rally pedigree. It could be more SEAT/Skoda than Porsche/Audi. It won’t happen though, they will kill it off beforehand.
![]() 05/22/2015 at 07:58 |

I shudder at the thought of Lancia being FCAs Seat/Skoda.
![]() 05/22/2015 at 08:19 |
|
Why? Skoda is VW group’s best brand.
![]() 05/22/2015 at 08:58 |
|
Skodas are just slightly cheaper VWs. Hardly the best of VAG imo. But Lancia should not be a budget brand. The Lancia that I know and love has stood for innovation, excellent driving dynamics, conservative yet handsome styling and high levels of built quality for over six decades. In short, Lancia used to be the italian Mercedes. You know what Lancias were not? Cheap. Even the most basic of Fulvias was nearly as expensive as an E-Type. No one at Lancia back then knew what cost cutting was. Until Fiat came along, Lancia was run entirely by engineers, not bean counters. To me, everything else than a no-nonsense, no cost cutting, pure engineers car is not a real Lancia. To me, Lancia has been pretty much dead for quite a while now. And I can’t believe that a true revival is going to happen with FCA. Alfa is a lot more profitable than the pretty much forgotten outside of italy Lancia, and you know what? I’ll cheer for Alfa and hope that Lancia joins Duesenberg, Oldsmobile, Horch and all the others instead of ghosting around as the rusty remains of its former glory.
